The boat shoe has become a quick staple in American fashion. It’s often seen in the South paired with a nice pair of jeans, shorts or even slacks.

Commonly worn with no socks—boat shoes are an extremely versatile and comfortable form of footwear.

History:

The boat shoe was invented in 1935 by Thomas Sperry. he came up with the idea while watching his dog run effortlessly across a frozen lake. He noticed that the dogs padded feet prevented him from slipping.

As a result, Sperry took out a knife and crafted siping into his shoe’s soles—and just like that, his shoes had better traction.

As time evolved boat shoes were worn by sailors and captains however, since the 1980’s they became a staple of American fashion.
